Awful second half leaves Vale on the brink
An in-depth look at Port Vale after their 4-2 defeat at home to Exeter
Hello and welcome to our Sunday morning edition of The Valiant for April 14.
Vale’s League One status is hanging by a thread after an awful second-half performance against Exeter kept them in the relegation zone.
Darren Moore’s side were excellent before the break to take a deserved lead through Ethan Chislett’s volley from the edge of the area, on 31 minutes, before doubling their lead with Baylee Dipepa’s low strike, on 40.
But Millenic Alli’s deflected goal 12 minutes into the second half caused a Vale wobble which became a collapse as Zak Jules, on 67 minutes, Luke Harris, on 79, and Alli, on 89, wrapped up a 4-2 victory for the visitors.
Burton’s 2-1 win at Stevenage completed a grim afternoon for Vale who remain in the final relegation spot, three points behind the Brewers with three games each to play.
Vale return to action at home to Wycombe on Tuesday knowing that, realistically, only a win will do.
