Defences on top in home opener
A look at Port Vale after their goalless draw at home to Tranmere
Hello and welcome to our Sunday morning edition of The Valiant for August 18.
Vale were involved in an unspectacular opening home game as they fought out a goalless draw against Tranmere.
Ronan Curtis fired just wide from the edge of the area as Vale had the better of the first half and Ethan Chislett forced a fine save from Luke McGee early in the second. But Tranmere looked more of a threat as the afternoon wore on and almost won a game of few chances when Jesse Debrah headed Brad Walker’s corner against his own bar eight minutes from time.
The result leaves both sides unbeaten from their opening two league fixtures and was about fair from a finely-balanced game.
Maybe…hopefully, it’s an omen. Vale’s opening home league game of their 2021/22 promotion season was also a goalless draw against Tranmere.
We’ve got talking points, ratings, reaction and more in this morning’s edition.
