Games running out for Vale after Oxford defeat
A look at Port Vale's 2-0 defeat at home to Oxford in our Sunday morning edition of The Valiant for March 17.
Hopes of a Port Vale revival were dashed once again as they were comfortably beaten 2-0 at home to play-off chasing Oxford.
A battling goalless draw at Leyton Orient in midweek at least gave Vale something to build on but this defeat leaves them without a win in 14 and still second from bottom of League One.
They fell behind on 16 minutes when Ciaron Brown scored from a corner and then were left with too much to do when Josh Murphy doubled the lead on 49 minutes by curling the ball in off the post from a short corner.
The result leaves Vale six points adrift of safety, albeit with a game in hand ahead of Saturday’s game at fellow strugglers Burton.
