Port Vale’s winless run in the league is at 10 games after they were beaten 2-1 at Shrewsbury.

Andy Crosby’s side dominated possession but couldn’t make that count. Instead, Max Mata headed home Jordan Shipley’s cross at the far post to put the hosts 1-0 up on 28 minutes, a lead they doubled three minutes into the second half when Dan Udoh took on Nathan Smith before crashing a shot in off the bar from the edge of the area.

Ben Garrity headed home Tom Sang’s 57th-minute free kick to give Vale hope, but they couldn’t reward their 1,600 travelling supporters with an equaliser.
