Hello and welcome to our Sunday edition of The Valiant for October 13.

Antwoine Hackword’s 77th-minute strike clinched it - and the moment wasn’t lost on Vale’s 1,000 travelling supporters at Stadium MK.

The celebrations of the goal itself had barely subsided when ‘we are top of the league’ boomed out of the away end. And that’s exactly where Vale stay this morning having comfortably seen out the rest of the game and indeed had chances to extend their lead.

Who knows where they will finish the season but that’s seven league games unbeaten for Darren Moore’s side and now back-to-back away wins to reach the summit.

They deserved this victory because, after a slow opening 45 minutes dominated by defences, Vale upped the tempo after the break so it certainly wasn’t against the run of play when Jack Shorrock’s perfect cross from the left was met with a cushioned volley by Hackford past keeper Tom McGill and right in front of the travelling supporters.
