Impressive Vale show strength in depth
A look at Port Vale after their Bristol Street Motors Trophy game at Salford
Hello and welcome to our Wednesday morning edition of The Valiant for August 21.
Vale demonstrated the strength in depth of their squad as they eased to a 2-0 win at Salford in their opening game of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.
Darren Moore made seven changes to the side that drew at home to Tranmere in the league on Saturday, but they were still too good for Salford as Vale matched their 2-0 victory in the league at the same venue ten days ago.
Winger Diamond Edwards opened the scoring just five minutes into his impressive debut after coming on as a half-time substitute. Fellow substitute Ruari Paton then fired home from the edge of the area on 72 minutes to make the scoreline a fairer reflection of Vale’s superiority.
Jon Taylor hit the post for the hosts after the break but Jayden Stockley had two goals ruled out for offside, Kyle John had one chalked off for a foul and Paton was foiled by keeper Matt Young late on as Vale created plenty.
