Improving Vale out of drop zone with hard-earned Wigan point
An in-depth look at Port Vale after their goalless draw at Wigan in League One
Port Vale’s prospects of staying in League One continue to improve after they battled their way to a goalless draw at Wigan.
The point, coupled with results elsewhere, takes Vale out of the drop zone on goal difference from Burton and was welcomed by close to 1,400 travelling supporters.
Vale were well worth their draw. The Latics’ Thelo Aasgaard had a header blocked on the line by Alex Iacovitti in the first half and Martial Godo hit the post after the break. But Vale came closest to scoring seven minutes from time when James Plant’s deflected strike forced a fine save from Wigan keeper Sam Tickle who then did even better to save Baylee Dipepa’s effort from the rebound.
