Outplayed and out of the Trophy
A look at Port Vale on and off the pitch after a 4-1 defeat at home to Wrexham
Hello and welcome to our Wednesday morning edition of The Valiant for January 29.
Forget Wembley, at least in the Vertu Trophy.
Vale’s run was ended in the last 16 as they were beaten 4-1 at home to a Wrexham side who showed the greater strength in depth after Darren Moore made 11 changes and Phil Parkinson ten.
Vale made a great start as Ronan Curtis fired them in front after just 19 seconds and Rico Richards forced a fine save from Arthur Okonkwo.
But the visitors levelled on 31 minutes when Andy Cannon was given too much room in the area to beat debutant keeper Nathan Broome. They took the lead through Harry Ashfield three minutes into the second half and then ended Vale’s realistic hopes when Elliot Lee poked home a third on 63 minutes.
Vale were looking ragged at the back by then and conceded a fourth to Mo Fall on 82 minutes before the visitors had a fifth ruled out for offside.
