Port Vale ended their 11-game winless run in the league as a gritty performance and Ollie Arblaster’s 29th-minute goal secured a 1-0 victory at Exeter.
Vale kicked off the game knowing they could have finished it in the relegation zone but instead are six points clear and up to 17th.
So, a major lift for manager Andy Crosby and the team and hopefully a turning point in a campaign which continues with three home games in a week, against Stevenage in the FA Cup on Tuesday, Wigan in the league on Saturday and Middlesbrough in the club’s first ever Carabao Cup quarter final, on December 19.
