Port Vale throw away FA Cup hopes in Stevenage drama
An in-depth look at Port Vale's FA Cup defeat at home to Stevenage on penalties after a 3-3 draw
Port Vale threw away a place in the FA Cup third round as they twice conceded late goals before going out on penalties at home to Stevenage.
Goals from Ben Garrity on six and 55 minutes put Vale on route to a tie at Maidstone in the next round but, having dominated the first half, they were pegged back by the visitors who pulled a goal back through Harvey White on 81 minutes.
Kane Hemmings equalised in the sixth and final minute of stoppage time and, although Ryan Loft restored Vale’s lead on 114 minutes, Nathan Thompson levelled at 3-3 on 119 minutes to take the game to spot kicks.
Ben Garrity and Loft had their penalties saved so, although Luther James-Wildin put his effort over, Stevenage went through 4-3.
