Resilient Vale march on
An in-depth look at League Two leaders Port Vale after their 1-0 win at Morecambe
Hello and welcome to our Sunday edition of The Valiant for November 17.
And that’s three more points. Vale strengthened their position at the top of League Two after edging out Morecambe 1-0 in a scrap of a game in Lancashire.
The win puts Vale five points clear of second-placed Crewe and was a determined response to their ten-game unbeaten run coming to an end at Gillingham last week.
Vale certainly had to work for this result against a gutsy Morecambe team looking for their first home win of the season on a day of protests against their owner. But Vale’s resilience and persistence paid off seven minutes from time when Benicio’s corner was flicked on by Jayden Stockley for Ethan Chilsett to score from close range right in front of the travelling supporters.
Ruari Paton had a first-half goal disallowed for a foul and the home side also had a goal chalked off as Jamie Stott was denied by the offside flag after the break. At that point a goalless draw was favourite but Vale and Chislett had other ideas.
