Staying top despite late drama
A look at Port Vale on and off the pitch after the 1-1 draw at home to Crewe
Hello and welcome to our special Tuesday morning edition of The Valiant for November 26.
Vale were denied victory over Crewe in stoppage time but may still reflect this was a useful point after playing nearly all the second half with ten men.
Jack Shorrock’s brilliant volley gave Darren Moore’s side the lead inside three minutes and, although Crewe had plenty of the ball, Rico Richards and Brandon Cover had chances to extend the lead.
But Rekeem Harper was sent off four minutes into the second half after earning a second yellow card, leading to a rearguard effort for the rest of the game. Vale almost made it but Lee Bell’s side found a leveller in the 92nd minute when Max Conway’s low cross broke to Jack Lankester to score from eight yards.
The result extends Vale’s lead at the top of the table to four points although that could be cut tonight when second-placed Walsall are at home to Bromley.
