Hello and welcome to our Sunday edition of The Valiant for September 8.
Vale showed their strength in depth to secure an emphatic 4-1 win at Newport and move up to 12th in the League Two table after five games.
The win was Vale’s biggest away from home in the league for three years and was a determined response to last week’s home defeat to Doncaster as Darren Moore’s side put on a show for more than 500 travelling supporters in South Wales.
Jayden Stockley headed home the opener from Benicio’s cross on six minutes and, although Aaron Wildig headed Newport level on 24 minutes, Stockley restored Vale’s lead when he stretched to meet Lorent Tolaj’s flick-on after 36.
Vale then took the game away from their hosts with goals from Ethan Chislett, on 48 minutes, and Tolaj, on 54, before Newport imploded as Ciaran Brennan was red carded on 58 minutes and Kyle Jameson also ordered off nine minutes later.
The result and performance will give Moore’s squad much belief as they head into a rare free mid-week before next Saturday’s home game against title favourites Chesterfield.
We’ve got news, analysis, opinion and nostalgia in this morning’s edition as we digest a richly-deserved victory.
