Hello and welcome to our Sunday morning edition of The Valiant for August 17.

They almost won it but Vale had to settle for a goalless draw at Burton after having George Byers controversially sent off after just 15 minutes.

The captain’s sliding challenge on Charlie Webster got a straight red and left Vale up against it in a hard-fought game that both sides could have nicked.

Brewers target man Jake Beesley twice headed just wide after the break and was later foiled by Marko Marosi who also saved well from Tyrese Shade.

But Vale went close through Ronan Curtis’ second-half header before Jesse Debrah headed wide in stoppage time.

The game was stopped for eight minutes in the second half while a Vale supporter had medical treatment. The clubs reported after the game that he was recovering.

The draw leaves Vale with two points from their opening three games but they could be encouraged by the performance as they prepare for Tuesday’s home game with Stevenage.
