Hello and welcome to our Wednesday morning edition of The Valiant for October 2.
Two points not so much dropped as thrown away as Vale had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Colchester on a hugely frustrating evening in Burslem.
Victory seemed Vale’s for the talking when Jesse Debrah headed home Ethan Chislett’s 55th-minute corner against an unambitious Colchester side whose aim until that point appeared to be to slow the game down as much as possible.
But Vale couldn’t get a second goal, the visitors started to play and heads were in hands across the home ends when Connor Ripley could only parry John-Kymani Gordon’s 90th-minute strike out to Samson Tovide who forced the ball over the line.
The point leaves Vale in seventh. A win would have put them fourth but the final moments were infuriating enough without dwelling on what could have been.
We’re looking at the game and more in this morning’s edition.
