Vale back in drop zone as they are outclassed at Peterborough
A look at Port Vale after their 3-0 defeat at Peterborough in League One
Hello and welcome to our Thursday morning edition of The Valiant for April 11.
Vale’s hopes of pulling away from the relegation zone were thwarted as they were comprehensively beaten at Peterborough.
In fact, last night’s 3-0 defeat means the Vale have fallen back into the bottom four, behind Burton on goal difference.
Darren Moore set his side up to try to frustrate Darren Ferguson’s promotion-chasing Posh, a plan that was working, albeit with a few scares, until the home side took the lead in first-half stoppage time when a short corner was played to Joel Randall and his shot took a deflection on its way past Connor Ripley.
Vale’s evening got worse when Harrison Burrows scored from the spot on 56 minutes after Ryan Loft had pulled back Josh Knight while defending a free kick. And the home side’s superiority was underlined on 86 minutes when Burrows’ cross was deflected into his own net by Alex Iacovitti.
The Vale return to action on Saturday at home to Exeter, one of four games left to try to stay in League One.
