Vale hit the ground running at Salford
A look at Port Vale after their 2-0 opening-day victory at Salford City
Hello and welcome to our Sunday morning edition of The Valiant for August 11.
What a start! Port Vale hit the ground running back in League Two as they proved too strong for Salford at the Peninsula Stadium.
Ben Garrity reacted quickest on the rebound to open the scoring in first-half stoppage time after Ben Heneghan’s header had been saved. And Garrity then made certain of victory when he headed home Ronan Curtis’s 69th-minute corner in front of the travelling fans packed behind the goal.
The 2-0 win was richly deserved for an impressive all-round performance in which Vale were clinical at one end and allowed Salford to create very little at the other.
Garrity’s double was quite the way for the midfielder to mark his first game since being named club captain. But while he has already taken a couple of strides towards matching the 12 goals from midfield he managed last season, there were impressive performances all over the pitch as Darren Moore’s side made a perfect start to 2024/25.
