Hello and welcome to our Sunday morning edition of The Valiant for August 25.
Port Vale face an early-season test of their ability and character after they were hammered 4-0 at Barrow.
There was little indication of the carnage to come in a tight first half of few chances in front of 700 travelling supporters. But Ged Garner’s 55th-minute opener tilted the game to the home side, Ben Garrity missed a chance to level and Vale collapsed after substitute Emile Acquah rifled the second into the top corner from just inside the area on 78 minutes.
Kian Spence swept home Neo Eccleston’s cross on 82 minutes before a miserable afternoon was completed in stoppage time when Elliott Newby cut the ball back for Dom Telford to fire past Connor Ripley.
We’ve got news, analysis, opinion and more reaction as we reflect on this defeat and Vale look to pick themselves up for Saturday’s home game with Doncaster.
