Vale make it four in a row
A look at Port Vale after their 1-0 win at Harrogate kept them top of the league
Hello and welcome to our Wednesday morning edition of The Valiant for October 23.
The numbers are all adding up for the Vale who remain top of the league after Ruari Paton’s brilliant free kick gave them a 1-0 victory at Harrogate.
That’s nine games unbeaten in the league for Darren Moore’s side, and ten in all competitions. This was also Vale’s fourth league win on the spin, keeps them a point clear from Walsall at the top of the table and puts them four points clear in the automatic promotion places.
This win was well deserved for a battling performance against a hard-working mid-table Harrogate side. Ben Heneghan thought he had headed Vale in front from a first half corner only to be denied by keeper James Belshaw who managed to palm the ball against the underside of the bar.
Belshaw won the sponsors’ man of the match but even he was unable to stop the winner, bent home brilliantly by Paton from 20-yards after 54 minutes.
