Hello and welcome to our Sunday morning edition of The Valiant for October 6.
Vale are up to sixth, just one point behind leaders Walsall, after Lorent Tolaj’s goal and an impressively resilient performance helped them to a 1-0 win at promotion rivals Notts County.
Darren Moore’s side had to withstand plenty of pressure but, backed by a sell-out away following of more than 2,200, defended Valiantly to restrict County’s chances.
That meant Lorent Tojaj’s 25th-minute goal was enough to win it, the Swiss forward meeting Ronan Curtis’s low ball across the area with a first-time strike into the corner.
And Vale had chances to win it more comfortably in the closing stages as they repeatedly hit the home side on the break.
That didn’t matter. The win makes it six games unbeaten in the league, and seven in all competitions for Moore’s men who return to action at MK Dons next Saturday.
The absence of a mid-week fixture gives them chance to regroup and take a breather. They have certainly earned it.
