Vale’s statement victory
A look at Port Vale after their 1-0 win at home to Chesterfield in League Two
Hello and welcome to our Sunday morning edition of The Valiant for September 15.
Three points, yes, but this felt like more than a win as Darren Moore’s side deservedly saw off Chesterfield to show last week’s 4-1 victory at Newport wasn’t a flash in the pan.
The Spireites kicked off the season as title favourites, and could yet claim that prize, but they couldn’t argue about a defeat that never really looked in doubt once Ethan Chislett had skipped on to Lorent Tolaj’s through ball and slotted the ball past former Vale keeper Ryan Boot for the 11th minute opener.
That was enough as Vale denied their visitors a shot on target while also creating chances to make the scoreline more comfortable.
We’ve got reaction, opinion, news, analysis and nostalgia in this morning’s edition.
