Hello and welcome to our Monday edition of The Valiant for December 30.

Vale posted a strong contender for their worst performance of the season as they were well-beaten 3-0 at Grimsby Town.

The result sees them drop out of the automatic promotion places and into fourth - but more worrying is a seventh league game without a win for a team that has struggled to score goals of late and is now looking shaky at the back.

Manager Darren Moore labelled the performance as unacceptable and apologised to the travelling supporters, saying he and his players deserved their criticism at full time.

Grimsby took a deserved 29th-minute lead when Jordan Davies was given too much room in the right of the area and chipped the ball over Connor Ripley for Cameron McJannet to slide in and score at the far post.

Vale improved at the start of the second half but the game was effectively over on 81 minutes when Doug Tharme headed home a free kick. That was followed by an embarrassing third in stoppage time as Ripley’s clearance was blocked by Jason Dadi Svanthorsson who ran through to score.
