Wycombe defeat shoves Vale towards the drop
A look at Port Vale after their 2-1 defeat at home to Wycombe Wanderers
Hello and welcome to our Wednesday morning edition of The Valiant for April 17.
Vale need something extraordinary to stay up after a 2-1 defeat at home to Wycombe left them on the brink of relegation to League Two.
The result sees Vale drop a place to third-from-bottom, a point behind Cheltenham, who have a game in hand, and three behind Burton.
That means Vale realistically have to win at Bolton on Saturday, and then at home to Cambridge in their final game, to have any chance of staying up - and even then they would be relying on both Cheltenham and Burton to slip up.
They were made to pay for an awful start last night when David Wheeler put the visitors in front after four minutes. Ethan Chislett levelled two minutes into the second half with a 15-yard strike from the right side of the area, but Nigel Lonwijk netted an 86th-minute winner as Vale appealed in vain for offside.
